A leap forward
The attempts of times and a series of authoritary regimes made Romania register today, at the begining of the third Christian milenium, a historical delay of almost a century in comparison with our European partners. This delay affects each relevant sector of society: from infrastructure to education, from justice to work ethics, from business eficiency to the birocracy’s level of responsibility.
Romania’s settlement on a new historical path – eficient and healthy – can not neglect the implications of this seculary gap. It is not enough for our country to develop in an equal rithm with that of the contemporary societies. We need more! We need, with every decade of growth, to suppress another decade of delay. To become an important and respected actor, Romania has to gather its forces and, through a multiplied, doubled work, to overcome the delays in a Big Emancipation Leap.
An accelerated progress, that swallows the organical stages of a nation’s development, often constitutes – indicated clearly by Titu Maiorescu – a fatal risk for its health. And this is because the superficialy obtained progress, through the simplistic imitation of institutions and advanced technologies, assures just a „shape without substance”, under which a nation can lose its identity, direction and soul. On the other hand though, the seculary historical gap in relation with the European powers doesn’t give us the posibility of searching „Romanian solutions” for each major social issue. If we wish to become up to date, we have no time to lose. We have to act now!
The capacity to avoid the 2 simultaenous traps – the blind progress or the organic but slow growth – can be resumed in one word with a powerful political load: emancipation. The emancipation constitutes a leap forward realized through own efort; it means authentical progress gained through organic evolution.
The 5 emancipations
To join the concert of the great European Powers, Romania needs a series of social emancipations:
- An emancipation of the Romanian village, which stil keeps 40% from the country’s population at the edge of modernity.
- An emancipation of the Romanian worker, either being a top manager or farmer, that has to rise and proclaim his rights.
- An emancipation of the young generation, that has to replace the statute of simple executant of decisions with that of equal partner in decision making.
- An emancipation of the Romanian pride, having enough historical and cultural arguments to look around without inferiority complexes.
- An emancipation of the national productivity, successfull Romanian entrepreneurs being the only authentical guarantee of the shared prosperity of the entire society.
A responsible political project has to propose Romanians the concentration over the 5 objectives, the outline of the strategies meant to assure their acomplishment, as well as settlement of the practical premises for the realization of the great emancipation leap. The time limit for checking these directions is the 2010 – 2020 decade – the Decade of the Romanian Emancipation.
